The Sunday XI was able to toast the first victory of the season after fine batting and bowling performances against Acme. Shoreham batted first and amassed an impressive 246 mainly due to a partnership of 113 between Nick Walker Snr (59) and Nick Pearce (61). This was followed by some Kamikaze running by John Dinnis who decided there was a single straight back to the bowler. The recovery work came in the shape of another fine partnership of 59 between James Trick (32) and Chris Brown (25). Acme got off to a good start and were up with run rate until the introduction of James Trick who ended with figures of 12 overs for 20 runs picking up 5 wickets. John Dinnis then wrapped up the innings in the penultimate over ending with figures of 8.3 overs for 21 runs and 4 wickets. The bowling was backed up by some solid fielding, in particular by James Asplin and Tom Palmer who both excelled taking valuable catches in the process.

Lost by 110 runs to Betsham

The Sunday XI were thrown in at the deep end against a strong Betsham team, who mustered 277 for 7 off their 40 overs, including two batsman retiring on 100 and 50. Highlights of Shoreham’s fielding performance were few and far between but included a catch by Tim Martin, a smart run-out by George Rivett, expensive figures from all seven bowlers, and an early bid by the current holder to retain the Ray Trick fielding award. No less than three debutants were making an appearance for the home side - Patrick Barrett, Clive Tilley and Steve Newitt, who kept well. In reply Shoreham worked hard against some tight bowling but it was only when Sam Trick (35) joined John Dinnis (50) that the scoreboard began to warm up. The innings eventually subsided in the 38th over for 167 - which at least was a lot more than the Saturday team managed. An enjoyable time was had by all nonetheless and the Rivett tea was widely appreciated. Proceedings concluded at The George where the beer was £2 per pint to mark St George’s day.

Shoreham Saturday manage to keep visitors below 250

Bidborough proved too strong for Shoreham on Saturday despite the early efforts of Montie, Graham Webb and the back up bowling of Wyn (3 for 75) and Graham Peck (2 for 36) they managed to tuck in and score 247.

In reply, Shoreham started badly losing Nick Walker Jn to a grubber for 4 then Simon Wells came to the crease offered his leg stump to the bowler who duly obliged by knocking it over first ball.

The home team went on losing wickets at regular intervals and finally capitulated to 96 all out, and got down the pub reasonably early.
