Sun 8 July - Knockers

Posted on 9th July in 2007, Friendly Match Reports

Shoreham faced mighty Knockers on Sunday and were outplayed, outclassed and outgunned. Shoreham won the toss (our third in a row on Sundays) and controversially elected to bat first. Hofmann and Dinnis were first in, but Hofmann did not last long against Knockers’ pace attack and is still smarting from his first duck of the season. Dinnis held up one end while Rob Marsden hit two quick fours and then got out. ‘Mummy, why does daddy always stop the ball?’ asked Dinnis Junior. Ed Walker made some runs at four, but it was left to super-sub James Trick to top-score in the fifties before being run out… by his dad.

Shoreham went on to score 136 for 9, not enough against a Knockers team which contained regulars from Holmesdale, Vine and St Lawrence. Knockers came out for some batting practice after tea and reached Shoreham’s total before 7pm. Highlight of the match was Dan Setterfield’s running catch at long off in front of the pavilion. Knockers’ opener went for a repeat of the big four he hit early in the match but Dan ‘big hands’ Setterfield was waiting on the boundary and snaffled up a towering catch.
