Sat 21st July - 1st XI v Kemsing

Posted on 22nd July in 1sts Match Reports, 2007

I’d spent the whole morning watching TV to the continuous backdrop of rain outside our living room window (either that or Brownie was pissing on our roses again), and was pessimistic about our chances of a full game. Miraculously, the torrent subsided and not a drop of water fell during the match (apart from perhaps the beads of sweat from my brow as I bowled all my overs uphill-and-into-the-wind as always). James won an important toss and sent Kemsing into bat on a damp, lively strip…

Kemsing reached 47 before an inch-perfect throw by Andy Monteith back to Ed Walker at the bowler’s end produced the tight run-out of dangerous opener, G Wood (20). R Shipton (23) was the only other Kemsing player to reach double figures. After our first, we managed to take a wicket (on average) every 3 runs, resulting in a 10-man Kemsing being bowled out for a mere 71. James Trick (0-10-9) bowled as consistently as usual; Ed Walker (0-26-9) did go for the most runs, but who cares about details like that; Pete Wright (2-18-9) bowled very tightly; Sandy Clark (4-4-6) had the complete opposite of his game the weekend before and ended with superb figures, destroying the Kemsing middle order; Bob Stacey (2-4-3.1) picked up a useful couple; and James Asplin (0-2-1) only bowled two wides! (Sorry James). We fielded extremely well again and, despite missing the odd chance, held four catches in total. Mark McDonald did a grand job with the gloves in the absence of our Chairman as well.

Nick Walker Snr looked set in his favoured opening slot, but played a rubbish shot and was caught on 4. Andy Monteith (32no) and Pete Wright (33no) finished the job for Shoreham before the end of the 12th over – leaving us comprehensive winners by 9 wickets. And, needless to say, everyone enjoyed the couple of extra hours in the pub afterwards!

After reading both reports im not sure wether to be proud as the only clubman to make it into both reports on the same day or to be upset at the comments, but then again the truth hurts. i see no mention of the catch?
