Sun 30 - Halstead

Posted on 2nd October in 2007, Friendly Match Reports

halstead 170 for 5
shoreham 88 all out

On a damp wicket the 9 men of Shoreham decided to have a bowl, 8 when the first ball was bowled. Halstead started at a steady pace against the pace attack of Brad Sims 4-0-26-0 and david fletcher 10-1-37-0 it wasn’t until the change of bowlers of James Trick taking his 50th wicket of the season 13-5-22-3 and miles walker 10-0-53-1, Miles was unlucky not to have had 2 wickets with the Halstead number 3 (Phil Dent) stump by Brad Sims for the umpire not to give it with the batsmen still not back in his crease. This seemed to anger James who decided a fast rising bouncer would do which the batsmen gloved, on returning to the pavilion Mr. dent was asked why he didn’t walk by his own team and he seemed to take offence changed and went home before shoreham had finished fielding the other wicket taker was Paul Styles 3-0-14-1.

Shorehams innings got off to a steady start but when the first wicket fell with 7 on the board the next 5 went for 12 this brought James Trick and Pat Barrett to the crease who shared a 41 run partnership before pat departed for 1 the last pair of James and Miles tried to hold out for the draw but fell 3 overs short when miles was run out James finished on 73 not out, but despite 3 high profile players pulling out ( george rivett, wyn and dan setterfield) the game was still enjoyable. The unluckiest player of the day was the Dan Cotton of Halstead who after going to the hospital turned out he had broken his thumb batting and his finger field.
